Chicago- A federal judge has turned down a request by former Governor George Ryan to stay out of jail while he appeals his conviction on corruption charges. The 72-year-old Ryan is set to start serving his 6 1/2 year jail term January 4th. Ryan was convicted on 22 counts of corruption earlier this year. He was found guilty of steering state business to friends and associates in exchange for gifts and vacations. A co-defendent in the case, Larry Warner, a longtime friend and associate, was sentenced to nearly three-and-a-half years in prison.
