Winnebago County, IL - The joint Intergovernmental Agreement approved by the Rockford City Council on Tuesday goes before the Winnebago County Board for a vote on Thursday.
Board members arent certain how the vote will turn out, but the comments and actions of the city aldermen are weighing heavily on their minds.
The Winnebago County Board is relying on Winnebago Landfill to be its source of revenue to revamp the MetroCentre.
Since the landfill currently has about four years left of remaining capacity for waste, an expansion, expected to be open in 2008 or 2009, is earmarked to bring in the money.
Winnebago Landfill agreed to pay the county $3.25 a ton in tipping fees, almost double the rate now in place for landfill waste, according to Gary Marzorati, president of William Charles Waste Companies and a member of the MetroCentre Authority.
