breaking news
Durand, Illinois- Durand residents got a shock as they heard the Winnebago County Sheriff`s Department was in their town searching for clues.
Sunday afternoon, a young boy was strolling along the pavement when he wandered off several feet into the woods. He found something shocking.
Police were called to the scene and because it was too dark to begin looking Sunday night, they closed off the area. They began their investigation Monday morning.
They have found several bones, they say are the remains of a human skeleton.
"They are definitely human remains," says Winnebago County Coroner Sue Fiduccia.
So far about ten bones have been recovered - an entire human body has between 115 and 118 bones in it.
Right now, it is still too early to determine the person`s age, sex and race, but the skeleton is that of an adult and not a child.
"What we`re talking about are bones. We are not talking about finding any flesh at all- which indicates that these bones have been here for a long time," says Fiduccia.
That means at least six months, probably longer.
"We do have a skull, we do have teeth and we will be looking at a later time for possibly dental x-rays. If we are able to match something up with a missing person," Fiduccia.
It is not known at this time whether or not the person died in this spot or if their body was placed here.
