With less than one day until the midterm elections, Local polling places are busy prepping for November 2nd. Meanwhile voters are making their final decisions.

The early votes are in and now poll workers are busy getting ready for the big day.

“It’s a tremendous amount of work, we've been here for 3 weeks straight, with no break, working sat and Sunday,” says Rockford Board of Elections Executive Director Nancy Strain.

All that hard work culminates November 2nd, when most voters will make their voices heard.

“We hope to have at least between 45 and 50 percent come out, 46 is pretty much what we've had in off year elections,” says Strain.

Rockford college professor John McNamara says that most residents enjoys casting their ballot on election day for several reasons.

“Theoretically you know more about the candidates and secondly its kind of a symbolic act that we're going to do this as a free, democratic country.

That democracy can keep democratic control or carry the republicans back to power.

Mcnamara believes conservatives will gain some grounds, balancing both the county and the state for the better.

“I’ve always been a believer that it’s best for the executive if there’s a real strong mixture of republicans and democrats, people with varying opinions,” he says.

But the election depends on who turns out to vote.

“If 100 percent of people voted.. Who knows what would happen,” says Strain.

More than 5,000 people voted early but another 50,000 are expected to come out on November 2nd and help decide the future of our government.
