Sweater Club Members Punished At Virginia High School

(Haymarket, VA)  --  Ten members of a Virginia high school "Christmas Sweater Club" are in trouble with school officials for giving holiday candy canes to fellow students.
The boys, who wear the craziest Christmas sweaters they can find, say they were just tossing small two-inch candy canes to fellow students as they entered school.
But, one school official called the candy canes weapons, quote, "because you can sharpen them with your mouth and stab people with them."  All ten club members are being punished with detention and at least two hours of cleaning. Their disciplinary notices said nothing about the candy cane "weapons" but charged them with littering and creating a disturbance.
Undeterred, the boys say they like to sing Christmas songs at school and try their best to spread Christmas cheer.
