U.S. Plans To Charge Assange

By: Colin Clarke
Updated: February 29, 2012
Confidential e-mail indicates prosecutors in the U.S. have drawn up secret charges against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. The e-mail was obtained by the "Sydney Morning Herald" from the private U.S. intelligence company Stratfor. It's one of a massive number of e-mails that WikiLeaks started publishing earlier this week. Internal correspondence to Stratfor analysts from vice-president of intelligence Fred Burton indicated that there is a sealed indictment on Assange. He's awaiting a British Supreme Court decision on his appeal against extradition to Sweden on sexual assault allegations. Assange believes if he's sent to Sweden, it would set up his extradiction to the U.S. to face possible charges of espionage or conspiracy. The charges are linked to the publication of leaked classified military documents by WikiLeaks.
