Rockford - Efforts to revitalize downtown continue with the latest expansion at the Prairie Street Brewhouse.

City leaders and building managers held a groundbreaking ceremony today.  The Brewhouse right now caters to events like wedding receptions and conventions.  But, with a little work and $12 million, it'll feature condos, a pub, and a restaurant, which is something the owner's have wanted to do since they bought the Brewhouse 15 years ago.

"They've had a vision of what they want it to become and [that's] a destination point and an anchor of downtown Rockford" says Shawn Kelley, Operations Manager for the Brewhouse.  "Being right on the river, being able to show people the value of the river in Rockford and what it represents and the excitement and the joy people can get out of that."

Construction on the Brewhouse is expected to be finished next May.
