City of Rockford Warns Residents of Energy Supply Scam

By: Colin Clarke
Updated: June 22, 2012
ROCKFORD - The City of Rockford is alerting residents to be aware of a potential energy supply scam.

Alternative energy suppliers have been misrepresenting themselves as the City's new energy supplier, and the City is notifying residents that any energy supplier who calls or solicits residents at their homes is not acting on behalf of the City of Rockford.

The City announced that they will be sending out an official letter to those enrolled in the municipal aggregation program within the next few weeks, notifying residents of the official supplier.

Municipal aggregation is a program that allows a municipality to purchase its electric supply at cheaper rates for residential and small business customers with a peak demand of 100kW or less from a supplier other than ComEd.
