Rockford - The Park District Police can now cover a lot of ground while on patrol, thanks to a pair of segways.

But, they won't be permanent.

They're on loan from the Chicago Police Dept. for only the next two weeks.  They want to see if they'll be an effective means of deterring crime.  If they are, then the District will look into fundraising to buy their own segways.

For now, they'll patrol recreation paths, parks, and Magic Waters.
