It's reached the
dog days of summer. And now Fido will actually have to stay home because of
Attendee John
Holtan said "now they tell us we can't have a dog down here. I think
that's unfortunate because a lot of people like dogs. They're beautiful pets.
Maybe I won't be able to come as often."
Organizers said
it's for sanitary purposes. The market draws thousands of people every week.
Vendor Coordinator
Aimee Kuelling explained "their dogs are with them while they're eating
and they're standing behind a food booth. And the dogs do what dogs do, they
shake and then there's hair loose and wind blowing and there's just
uncontrollable variances when the dogs are here."
Pet vendors hope it
doesn't hurt sales.
Owner of Caf Woof
Le Purr Madeline Enochs said "a lot of people don't bring their dogs down
to the market. They purchase the treats and bring them home. Not anticipating
that much, but yes there will be a drop."
Rules also include no
soliciting, smoking and attendees must walk their bikes. Shoes and shirts must
be worn.
"People aren't
happy. I mean dogs are their family members. It's like asking them not to bring
their kids with them somewhere and this was the one place where they could
bring their dogs and be in a nice, fun, social environment," said Kuelling.
