Forest preserve patrons looking to enjoy a few on the water aren't happy about it. Aimed at reducing over crowding and excessive littering the ban was put in place in early June.

The ban has been criticized for unfairly punishing everyone for the actions of a few. In a statement Winnebago County Forest Preserve's executive director said the instituted ban has helped to "curb the dangerous behavior that led to it being put in place."

Jake Dohm said "well we've come down here before and had a few beers on the river, kept the bottles to ourselves, kept the caps to ourselves and everything, Got out of the river at the end and everything just fine. I don't see why there's any reason for it"
