Nine Northern Illinois counties are about to be connected to a fiber optic network.  Rockford's City Council Committee gave the go ahead for the city to be a part of a $69 million dollar project which will see 900 miles of cable spread across the stateline.  To contribute, Rockford will allow access to its own 400,000 dollar fiber optic line--all done to speed up internet connectivity and boost economic development.  The project is expected to be completed by next summer.
