Springfield - A Winnebago County Sheriff's Deputy receives a Medal of Honor from the Illinois State Police for his role in stopping an armed robbery last October.

Frank Pobjecky successfully defended Marie's Pizza on Charles Street when four armed suspects tried to rob the restaurant.

He was off-duty at the time.

Pobjecky was one of 60 officers recognized at a ceremony in Springfield.  "The award is just something that covers the actions that you did" says Matt Ballinger of the Univ. of Illinois Police Department.  "Honestly, the gift is the people that you save or help, that's what matters."

The Medal of Honor is the highest award an officer can receive.  It's given to those who risk their lives above and beyond the call of duty.
