Toyota agrees to pay a $17.4 million fine to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

It's the largest fine allowed under law for a single investigation.  Toyota's troubles stem from a recall for one of its Lexus models.  The NTSB says the automaker didn't report a safety defect related to its sticky gas pedals for the Lexus RX 350 in a timely manner.

Toyota used to have a reputation for vehicle quality and safety.  But, 10 million cars worldwide have been recalled this year alone.
