By: Robert Burke
Updated: March 14, 2013

Rockford police have a juvenile in custody who eluded officers for nearly a mile.

Police say that the chase started at Auburn High School and ended in the 400 block of Carbaugh Avenue.  The suspect, who is a 16 year old student, was caught around 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

An investigation into the incident revealed that the student was to be questioned for punching another student last week.  School staff including Principal Ryan Reinecke approached the 16 year old which prompted him to run away from the school.

Police chased him through a wooded area and a neighborhood before he was eventually caught.

The juvenile's name is not being released and he was charged with aggravated battery and resisting arrest.
