Updated: March 1, 2007
Rockford- Winnebago County Board members won`t be getting a pay raise. Thursday night, they rejected a plan that would have doubled the $5,000 salary over the next two years. Board member Mary Ann Aiello believes all the negative phone calls and comments about the pay raise plan led to its defeat. But Board members did increase the pay of 3 elected officials. Following this fall`s election, the Sheriff`s salary will go up roughly $10,000 to $107,000. The salaries of the County Clerk and Treasurer will be $76,000, up about $4,000. The officials will also get yearly cost-of-living increases. The County Board`s vote on the salary increases was 13-13. County Board Chairman Scott Christiansen broke the tie by voting for it.
