Loves Park, Illinois- A $34 million road plan has been scaled back by nearly half. Loves Park officials made changes to which roads will get work in the city. The project will still include the widening of Riverside Boulevard to up to four lanes east of Interstate 90, both the extension of Orth Road and Interstate Boulevard, along with the road linking Spring Brook and Orth were cut from the plan.
"This is something Loves Park has done a lot of," says Winnebago County Chairman Scott Christianson, "and I think they`ve come up with a much better plan."
The once $34 million road project will now cost only $16 million.
"We basically cut the project in half," says Loves Park Mayor Darryl Lindberg.
After a quick meeting and some input from residents, a vote was taken.
"I`m very pleased," says Lindberg.
The new plans were unanimously voted in.
Christianson says, "some of those that were in the plan are not going to be in the plan, so as developers want to do something, they`ll have to plan in the future."
But for those who remain in the plans, Lindberg hopes they will start quickly. "I wouldn`t want to guess, but I`d like to see some dirt turned by next year."
