breaking news
(Rockford, Illinois) Saturday, volunteers from all across Rockford came together to help those devastated by the Labor Day storm put their homes and their lives back together.
Teams of volunteers helped dozens of victims who were hardest hit by the storm on Rockford`s southeast side.
While the flood water has been pumped out, basements remain filled with mud, and all kinds of appliances and personal items have to be thrown out.
Those volunteering say they want to send a positive message to all those who suffered from the storm.
Rockford resident Gary Mousel was one of those helping to clean up the basement of a home on 7th Avenue. He says he wanted to pitch in after seeing how much damage there was and adds, "I just hope it shows there are people who care, and I just hope they know they aren`t alone."
Saturday`s cleanup was sponsored by the City of Rockford and the Forest City Fellowship Church.
