(Rockford, Illinois) In order to help consumers deal with an expected electric bill rate hike next year, ComEd announced a new energy savings program Tuesday.
At a local hardware store in Rockford Tuesday morning, ComEd launched its new "One Million CFL Bulb Program".
The program will offer one million fluorescent light bulbs to residential customers at a 60 percent savings.
The bulbs are expected to last 10 times as long as normal light bulbs and be 66 percent more efficient, according to ComEd officials.
Fidel Marquez, Vice President for External Affairs attended Tuesday`s press conference and said, "I think this program is an indication that Comed does care for its customers. We are launching this program to help them manage their bills, especially residential customers."
The cost effective light bulbs, which are expected to help reduce electric bills by about 5 percent, can be bought at several area hardware stores for 99 cents each.
ComEd officials say the program will continue until all one million fluorescent light bulbs are purchased.
