Updated: March 1, 2007
Chicago- The U.S. Attorney`s office has indicted one of the men who has helped Governor Rod Blagojevich amass a huge campaign war chest. Federal prosecutors say the charges against Tony Rezko stem from his role in a kickback scheme that netted him hundreds of thousands of dollars from firms doing business with the state`s teacher retirement system. The indictment says Rezko and also-indicted former TRS board member Stewart Levine used their positions to influence the board and make a lot of money for themselves and their associates. Rezko is a top fundraiser for the governor, but the federal charges do not mention the governor.
