Machesney Park, Illinois- Representatives from the Polish Army`s Homeland Security Department came to Machesney Park to learn about disaster response tactics.
A Black Hawk helicopter dropped off members of the Polish army this morning. They came to learn the step by step procedure the National Guard would use to respond to an attack due to a chemical weapon or other weapons of mass destruction.
Through the use of an interpreter, the Polish Colonel talked about what he learned from the guardsmen and their relationship with local fire and police officials.
"Poland up to this point did not have a lot of dealings with civilian authorities when it comes to contamination and chemical stuff," says Colonel Artur Zdrojawski. "The guards here on the other hand have had a close relationship with civilian and state agencies."
The guardsmen say they would be able to treat about 300 people in one hour in the event of attack.
