The rain of confetti may have settled, but the awards keep pouring in for the
RVC women's basketball team. The NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic
Association) has released the names of this year's NJCAA All-American selections
for Division III and the Golden Eagles have two players on the
list.
Sophomore Marion Thompson has been named first
team All-American, while fellow sophomore Erin Ryczek received
honorable mention.
Thompson was tied for second for the Golden Eagles in points per game
this season at 12.9 and led the team in rebounds at 12.6 per game. She was also
recently named first team all-conference and all-region. Ryczek was RVC's
leading scorer this season at 15.4 points per game and also easily led the team
in three-point field goals made with 66. She was also second team
all-conference, all-region, and was named to the NJCAA all-tournament team while
helping lead the Golden Eagles to its first ever national title in women's
basketball.
Thompson and Ryczek join Simone Coburn (2007-2008 & 2008-2009) and
Cierra Morris (2010-2011) as the only NJCAA All-Americans for women's basketball
in RVC history. RVC has had over 130 athletes in all sports named to
All-American teams by the NJCAA.
