Boylan administartors confirmed his decision in a press release. Appino met with his players for several minutes Monday afernoon to tell them the news. WTVO spoke in person with Appino Monday afternoon. He declined to comment on his decision saying that it has been a tough day having to break the news to his players.
Appino has been a coach at Boylan for 27 years. The last ten years he was the head coach. He not only guided the Titans to consecutive State Championships the last two years, but Boylan also has a 56 game NIC-10 winning streak.
There's lots of talk that Appino is headed to Auburn to become the Knights' next head coach. Appino declined to comment on that to WTVO.
Why would Appino leave a powerhouse to go to Auburn which hasn't won a single game the last three years? Perhaps he needs a new challenge. Perhaps he needs a change of scenery. Most likely there's more money involved in the Auburn job.
Appino says he'll comment later in the week.
