Online media source "The Daily Beast," reports Northern Illinois University in DeKalb ranked fourth in the country for the most crime incidents. From 2008 - 2010, the site says there were five murders, 24 aggravated assaults, 10 robberies, 68 burglaries, eight car thefts and two arson incidents.

The University of San Francisco came in just above NIU on the list, Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island claimed second place, and the title of Number One Most Crime-Rattled College goes to the University of Alabama-Huntsville.

Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago also made the list, coming it at spot 20 out of 25.

To be fair, the murders were the result of the attack on 2/14/08. Statistics can be useful, but only when in context.

I wonder about the methodology of this ranking, especially when NIU ranks among the most safe in the state of Illinois according to stateuniversities.com http://www.stateuniversity.com/rank_by_state/safety_score_rank/IL.html
