DeKalb, Illinois-The frigid weather in the Stateline has claimed NIU's spring football practices for now. The Huskies were supposed to hit the field Wednesday for their first workout, but coach Carey decided they wouldn't get much accomplished battling the cold.

There are still patches of snow on the field. Now practices are scheduled to begin next Wednesday, March 27th.

"Obviously the weather is not cooperating," says Carey. "I'm not afraid of the weather, and I really don't care that it's cold, but I will say this is that we wanted to give ourselves the best opportunity to get the most work done. We had an opportunity to move things back so we did."

NIU's spring game will still be held on Saturday, Arpil 13th. That will be free to the public.

Next year the weather won't be a factor. NIU's new indoor practice facility will be complete. Construction work is coming along well just north of the football stadium and the Yorden Center.
