All over the nation and all over the Stateline Wednesday high school football players were putting their college commitments in writing by signing national letters of intent.

Locally Byron's huge lineman Reid Sealby is headed to Hawkeye land. He signed with Iowa.

"I was almost set on Air Force, and at the last minute I got a call (from Iowa), and it was a full-ride scholarship, and I knew I couldn't pass an opportunity like that," said Sealby. "So I called Caoch Ferentz back and told him that I wanted to be a Hawkeye."

Boylan defensive end Dean Lowry is also Big Ten bound. He followed up his verbal commitment to Northwestern by signing with the Wildcats.

"It's a great feeling," said Lowry to WTVO. I know Northwestern's class is bringing some athletic and good looking players, so it's good to be part of their class, and I'm ready to get started."

Lowry's Boylan teammate DJ Zimmerman signed with Butler.

The NIC-10's Offensive MVP Austin Smaha of Belvidere North signed with NIU. He's likely to play on the defensive side of the ball for the Huskies at linebacker.

"It was down to three schools Western Illinois, Minnesota and NIU," said Smaha to WTVO. "It was floating up in the air for a long time there. NIU's just got a winning program."

Belvidere runningback/linebacker Marcus Gooden signed with Division II Minnnesota State.

"They've a very young team," said Gooden to WTVO. "They went 9-3 last year. If I don't redshirt they want me to play strong safety. But if I do redshirt I will play outside linebacker."

Christian Life fullback/linebacker Jeff Polsean became the first player in that school's history to sign a Division II letter of intent. He'll attend Southwest Minnesota State.

"This feels awesome," said Polsean. "Finally it's good to see all this hard work since sixth and seventh grade pay off. I finally get to go play college ball. It was always a dream of mine."

Harlem had five players sign Wednesday...Evan Anderson with Concordia University. Patrick Marner with Ferris State. And Brandyn Stout, Ben Black and Cody Haun all signed with Robert Morris.
