Belvidere, Illinois-Belvidere North's new head football coach is Rich Turner.  His hiring has been approved by the Board of Eduction this week.

Turner was most recently the head football coach at Bartonville Limestone High School near Peoria.  In two seasons there his teams won 5 games and lost 13.  Limestone was 4-10 in the Mid-Illini Conference. This past season Limestone was 1-8.  Turner resigned after the season.

Before that he had earned a reputation as a coach who can turn struggling programs around.  He was the head coach at Normandy High School in Parma, Ohio for seven years.  His teams won 46 games and lost 29.  That was impressive considering Nromandy had gone 10-90 the previous ten years.

In 2004 at Normandy Turner was named the State Coach Of The Year in Division II.  He was twice named Conference Coach of the Year.  His teams won two conference championships.

Before that Turner was an assistant coach at Naples High School in Florida.  In 2001 Naples won the 5A State Championship.  Again the program there underwent a dramatic turnaround.  Naples had lost 20 games in a row at one point.

Turner was also an assistant coach at Youngstown East in Ohio.  While there Youngstown East broke a 14 game losing streak and went from last in the city to runner-up.

Turner is a native of Youngstown, Ohio.

t v. has every right to give an opinion. However it seems that the post is a personal grudge against the new coach. That is the only motive that would explain why a Bartonville person signs up for an account to bash our new coach at 7:00AM. All coaches have some haters and the message board is a way to hide and attack people. Please keep your negativity in Bartonville. Coach has the community enthusiastic like our playoff years 3 years ago and has already contacted many of the boys. We are happy to have him and cannot wait till the new year. Good luck Limestone and lets hope both teams have a great year.

Good luck, Belvidere! The damage he did at Limestone- on the field, but especially in the classroom, will take years to mend. In all of my years in the Bartonville community, Turner is one of the worst teachers ever. Don't take my word for it; contact any LCHS student!
