The Blackhawks are starting to look like the IceHogs. Along with Bollig they also have on their current roster Andrew Shaw, Dylan Olsen and Jimmy Hayes. Add in the fact that Brandon Segal and Brian Connelly were traded in recent weeks, and Kyle Beach is still out with an injury, and the IceHogs look a whole lot different now than they did at the start of the season.
"We try not to let it (the roster changes) affect our group," said head coach Ted Dent. "We just move forward and plug in new guys. We have Zinette up from Toledo and Brookbank we can utilize. We just have to keep going."
Ever since Segal was traded, the IceHogs have been without a full-fledged captain. That changed Tuesday morning. Dent gave veteran defenseman Brian Fahey that honor.
"It's well deserving," said Dent. "He brings it every night and works hard, and he's got a great attitude. We're happy to have him wear the C."
"He's been a leader all year for us," said goalie Carter Hutton. "He's a guy who comes out and competes every game. He's been playing in this league a long time and knows how to win."
Fahey is happy with the honor, but he's more happy about the team's three game winning streak and their top-notch play on defense. They've given up only three goals in their last three games.
"I think as a defenseman it's a lot of fun," said Fahey to WTVO. "A lot of pride goes in to our defensive zone escpecially the penalty kill. We want to keep that and carry it over. If so we'll win more games."
The IceHogs will host Brian Connelly and the Abbotsford Heat Wednesday night.
