Rockford, Illinois-Zach Stoner has always been a White Sox fan.  Now he's only a signature away from being part of the White Sox organization.

Tuesday evening the White Sox drafted Stoner in the 12th round of the MLB Draft.

Stoner just finished his senior year at Boylan High School.  He had a .495 batting average, the second best in Boylan history.  He also has power.  As a junior he hit nine home runs.  That led the Stateline area.

Stoner told WTVO that he knew the Sox were interested in him.  "Yes I did.  I was in there (Chicago) last Friday hitting for them, and they told me to sit by the phone, so that's what I did all day today."

When Stoner finally got that call it was a moment he'll never forget.  "It's a big dream come true.  It was kind of amazing to hear my name after the Sox."

Earlier this year Stoner committed to play for Southern Illinois University.   He tells WTVO though that he's leaning toward signing with the Sox.  That could happen as early as Wednesday.

"Tomorrow I'll get complete details of what's being offered by the Sox and then tomorrow I'll make a decision."  If he does sign with the Sox he'll report to rookie camp in Arizona next Tuesday, then it's off to the Sox Rookie League team in Great Falls Montana.

Stoner was a catcher all season for Boylan, but the White Sox project him as a first baseman.

"It's fine.  I'll play anywhere," said Stoner.

Stoner began his baseball career as a five-year old in the Rockford Boys & Girls Club which is overseen by his father Chip Stoner.  His mother is Genevieve.
