The survey, conducted by the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorist (AAIM), placed the Rockford Police Department in first place in the state of Illinois for the 5th consecutive year for DUI arrests, netting 686 DUI arrests last year.
The AAIM has conducted annual surveys of Illinois police departments to determine how many driving under the influence of alcohol and drug arrests have been made, and gives recognition to the departments and individual officers in their efforts to combat drunk driving.
Three Rockford Police Officers ranked in the top 20 for DUI arrests:
Investigator Rosemary Matthews was 1st with 181 DUI arrests;
Investigator Paul Gallagher was 4th with 153 arrests;
Investigator Vernon Sims was 5th with 148 arrests.
Chief Chet Epperson commented "The Officers are committed to removing intoxicated drivers from the roadways to make Rockford safer for everyone. I applaud their efforts and diligence in enforcing the traffic laws of this State, particularly the laws of drunken driving and seat belt usage."
