Dimke Makes NFL Debut 8/10/12

Rockford, Illinois-Derek Dimke is only a rookie, but he booted the football with the confidence of a veteran Friday night.  The former Boylan and former Fighting Illlini kicker made a 40 yard field goal in the Lions preseason game at Ford Field against the Browns.

Dimke was a spectator for the first three quarters while veteran Jason Hanson handled the Lions' kicking duties. Hanson missed wide a 48 yard field goal attempt in the second quarter.

Early in the fourth quarter Dimke finally got his shot. He made the most of it putting his field goal attempt between the uprights.  He had a big smile on his face as he was congratulated by his special teams teammates.

That was Dimke's only field goal attemp.  He did not attempt an extra point. He had one kickoff that was returned by the Browns.

Dimke is considered a long-shot to beat out the veteran Hanson, but every kick he makes could lead to a job with another NFL team.

The Browns won the game 19-17 on their own late field goal with 28 seconds left.
