State Could Ban Energy Drinks For Minors

By: Alex de Leon
Updated: March 20, 2013
Springfield - Energy drinks could soon be off-limits to minors.

Both House Bill 2379 and House Act 2923 would make it illegal for anyone under 18 to buy or drink them. It would be just like cigarettes. But it would only apply to soda-like drinks, not coffees or teas.

Doctors say too much caffeine is harmful to kids. But critics don't believe an age limit is necessary.

A small group of lawmakers gave the ban the initial go-ahead today. But they say they're not ready to send it to the governor just yet.
