Print Article

(Chicago) -- Mayor Richard Daley's echoing the governor in saying the National Guard isn't needed to patrol Chicago streets.

Daley told reporters that he understood the "frustration" behind a request by two state lawmakers from Chicago who wanted a quick answer to urban violence.

Daley emphasized that lawmakers should support his call for tougher gun laws instead, saying, quote, "This is all about guns, that's why the crusade is on." He also didn't think much of the idea of putting guardsmen on city streets who haven't had police training.

Daley said, quote, "Think of the repercussions you have to look at (with) a fully automatic weapon?"
