ROSCOE - The Winnebago County Coroner's Office has named the deceased baby Noah. The newborn baby, only a few hours old, was found at Total Waste Recycling. The recycling center collects garbage from across the Stateline and dozens of trucks pass through the business every day. Police received the call at 8:45 A.M.  Workers say they saw a naked baby on the conveyor belt while sorting waste. The employees quickly stopped all of the machines and called police.

Owner of Total Waste Recycling Ed Schmitt was shocked "I think of it as an individual and certainly finding a dead baby is tragic for anybody. It's not; at that point, your first thought isn't as a business owner."

Employees who first spotted Noah thought the baby was an animal.

Employee Jaime Arellano said "I was in shock, I could not believe it. I've never seen something like that. I've been working long enough. We've seen all kinds of stuff, but not a human."

Winnebago County Police continue to investigate the death.

The Winnebago County Deputy Chief Dominic Iasparro said "the conveyor belt system separates the bags and the garbage. So we don't know whether or not the baby was actually originally in a bag when it had been put in a garbage truck."

An autopsy will be performed Saturday on Baby Noah. The results will be available in several weeks.
