September 5, 2012 (ROCKFORD) -- Katherine Murrary finds herself working most of the time, but today she finds herself donating blood to Rock River Valley Blood Center.
"I just haven't found the time to really do this and I guess its kinda neglecting folks that do need this," said Murrary. "just because I know there are kids out there that are sick and they probably need this blood."
This is Murrary's third time donating blood. She has a blood type of o-negative-- it's considered universal meaning anyone who needs a blood transfusion can easily receive the o-negative blood.
"I wish my brother would donate because he has a-b positive I believe and that's a very rare blood too. He just doesn't find it necessary I guess," said Murrary.
But a spokesperson for the Rock River Valley Blood Center thinks differently.
The blood center was closed on Labor Day. The center is now running on a one-day supply of blood making it extremely hard to meet supply and demand.
"We hope to rebound a little bit better from the holidays and we are seeing a little bit more increase traffic, but we need simply just to get more people in the door," said Jennifer Bowman.
And Katherine Murrary hopes to inspire viewers watching to make an effort to give back to the community by donating blood.
"It's important because there are a lot of sick people out there who could use the blood it is very important to go ahead and donate as much as you can-- as much as they allow you too," she said.
