Rockford - Two teens, a 15 year-old and 16 year-old, are in custody suspected of killing a man last July.
The Winnebago County State's Attorney's office told us the suspects are Cory and Zachary Hill. The two are not brothers. Both have been charged with the 1st degree murder of Michael Hughes, 53.
Police say they shot him with a single bullet in the doorway of his apartment on the 400 block of S. Henrietta Avenue. The shooting was not random. The suspects knew the victim. "I think anytime you have a young person involved as either a victim or a suspect in a crime it's very tragic" says Lt. Marc Welsh of the Rockford Police Department. "Anybody involved in a crime is a tragedy, but when you have suspects involved in a murder that are 15 and 16, that's very tragic."
Both suspects have had brushes with the law in the past. Both have juvenile records.
