Before
craft beers are served up at Pig Minds Brewing Company they start with a shipment of grains; several
different types of malts and barley.
Pig Mind's
Master Brewer Carson Souza explained "we're solid craft bear. That's our
whole life and passion here."
The
grains are then put into a steam boiler where they're mashed. All sugars and
flavors are extracted becoming wort. The
wort is then boiled and hops are added, but brewing delicious craft beer
doesn't end there.
"We
have about four days of fermentation, a vigorous fermentation, and then a rest
and then we move that to the server and create carbonation. Then it's able to
be served," said Souza.
Souza
describes Pig Mind's latest beer. It's a beer he'll debut at this year's Screw
City Beer Festival called fuzzy nuts and bolts.
"We
went with the roasted pecans and white peach brown ale," said Souza.
It's
one of over 200 beers served up at the annual fest. Organizers say sampling the
specialty brews is a way for residents to enjoy the weekend.
Screw
City Beer Festival organizer Aaron Sleger said "Come downtown support it.
It's a great event, second year running, a lot of great people involved."
Breweries
all over the Midwest are making their way to
"Come
out and drink some good beers," said Souza.
The
event runs Saturday from 1-6 P.M. Tickets are available at
