Grand Jury Indicts Former Lee Co. Comproller Rita Crundwell on 60 Counts of Criminal Theft

Dixon -- Former Lee county comptroller Rita Crundwell is indicted on 60 counts of criminal theft by a grand jury today. Crundwell is accused of embezzling $53 million from taxpayers during her time in office.
The U.S. Marshalls will begin auctioning off Crundwell's 300 horses on Sunday, which were part of a multi-state breeding operation allegedly funded by the stolen money.
