Rockford - Tomorrow is the official start of the Ryder Cup and Europe's best golfers arrive in Rockford.
Tour Champion Rory McIlroy was in attendance along with former number one golfer Lee Westwood. Airport Director Mike Dunn says the British team contacted him last year about the possibility of landing in Rockford.
While Dunn considers it an honor they flew into RFD, he says what's more important is getting the airport's name known in the international business community. Dozens of corporate sponsors were onboard the plane. "They now know about this airport" Dunn says. "As we talk to cargo carriers in Europe and Asia, it's very important they know about Rockford. Chicago is not the only airport in this region and for that reason this is a very great opportunity."
The players were welcomed with a gun salute and water cannon as they approached the gate.
