Rockford, Illinois-They came together at the Radisson on East State Street Monday night. A standout golfer, a championship coach, and an organziation that once brought Tiger Woods to Rockford.
They were inducted into the Greater Rockford Area Golf Hall of Fame. Inductee John Robertson made his mark on the local golf scene by winning 15 local tournaments in his career including four city championships. Those totals would have been higher had he not moved to Dayton, Ohio six years ago.
The coach who was inducted was long-time Rock Valley College Coach Steve Benjamin. His RVC teams have gone to Nationals seven times. They've won it all twice. Benjamin has coached countless outstanding golfers in the Stateline.
Also inducted as an organization was the Tiger Woods Foundation. In 2001 this group brought Tiger to Rockford for a clinic that riased over $154,000 in grants for local youth golf. A second clinic in 2004 without Tiger raised more money.
LPGA golfer Wendy Ward was the keynote speaker for the Hall Of Fame event.
