Rockford - Employees from UTC Aerospace take a break from their work day to help tutor middle school kids.
It's part of a Tutoring/Mentoring program. UTC workers meet with Lincoln Middle School students who are struggling in their math class once a week for one-on-one tutoring sessions. They meet for an hour at a time. One Lincoln teacher says in past years, not only do students have better math grades, they excel at their other classes as well. "Just because it's just math they're getting help with doesn't mean that their confidence isn't showing in all their core classes as well" says Cara Hodgdon, a 6th grade math teacher at Lincoln. "So, a lot of students go on to high school having all honors classes, not just math."
Today marks the third year UTC has participated in the tutoring program.
