Jimmy Johns is known for being freaky fast. Now they're making a freaky fast move out of Illinois. They're taking their licensing division to Florida. It's a move that doesn't surprise 34th District State Senate Republican candidate Frank Gambino.

"We need to be a state that's not going to be punitive to business like we currently are. We need a state that's going to be helpful to business," explained Gambino.

Illinois' state income tax increased from 3-5% in 2011. Gambino says if elected he has a plan to attract and retain companies.

Candidate and Owner of a local business Gambino says "We have to get our taxes to a fairer level. That's one of their complaints. We have to get our regulations to a regular level. That's another one of their complaints. And our fee structures are too high. That's one of the reasons Jimmy Johns is moving their licensing division to Florida, because the fee structure is much more affordable there and they can save millions of dollars there through their licensure."

His competition in the November election, Democrat Steve Stadelman says the key to job retention is by making sure the workforce has the proper education.

34th District State Senate Candidate Stadelman explains "we need to make sure we're competitive when it comes to tax rate and tax policies. But businesses also locate here because they want a qualified workforce, proper transportation infrastructure and job training programs. If there's one thing businesses need that's a quality workforce."

Both candidates see eye to eye on policies for small business owners. Mom and pop shops are often penalized once the big corporations pack up and head out.

We have to take up the burden the taxes fall down to us we have to work harder and make less

Gambino says "we have to take up the burden the taxes fall down to us. We have to work harder and make less money to support the government. And that's not what government should be about."

Stadelman explained "over the years we've given out tax incentives and tax breaks to large companies, but have ignored small businesses. I think we need to even the playing field and make sure they're treated fairly and equally."

Gambino and Stadelman, as well as candidates in the 35th district Senate race and the House Districts 68 and 69 will speak during a political forum being held Monday October 1st by the League of Women Voters of Greater Rockford.

Those interested can watch the forum live on WTVO'S sister-station My Network TV. It's on channel 17.2 starting at 5:30PM.

Good bye Jimmy Johns. And take your sandwich shops with you. I live to shop at local places. Not some place headquartered in Florida.
