Rockford - A local arts center is now $5,000 richer.
The Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center received a grant from the Donald and Britta Peterson Memorial Fund. The money will be used to put on a concert, "Aaron Copland's America". Mendelssohn says without grants like this, a lot of concerts could not happen. "It means a lot" says Beverly Broyles, Exec. Director for Mendelssohn. "Ticket fees do not cover the costs of putting on a huge Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra performance. It's a huge orchestra, award-winning, all professional group of fine musicians.
The concert will take place in March. It will be a joint performance by the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra and the Rockford Dance Company.
