FREEPORT-Police
are making a plea to the public regarding an unsolved hit and run death in
June. Police say 33-year-old Jimmy
Whitehead was hit and killed in the 1300 block of South Walnut Ave. sometime
before 4:45am on June 17th. Whitehead
had spent the evening at a bachelor party, and had last been seen at a relative's
home between 3 and 3:30am. Evidence at
the scene indicates he was then struck while walking in the roadway.
Police
say lighting conditions and other factors at the scene where Whitehead was
killed may have led to the driver not realizing what he had hit. They are asking anyone with information to
call:
Freeport
Police Detective Bureau 815-235-8226
Stateline
Area Crime Stoppers 866-847-7669
Stephenson
County Crime Stop 815-235-7867.
