Update: The names of the three police officers involved in Thursday's fatal shooting have been released. Sergeant Andre Brass, Officer Phillip Statler and Officer Jeremiah Cizerle have been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the Independent Criminal Investigation from the Winnebago County Integrity Task Force.
18 year old, Logan Bell, killed in a shootout with police yesterday was armed with a pellet gun. Rockford Police Chief Chet Epperson remarked, "This is a situation that you train for but you never want." The official ruling of death is being withheld pending toxicology results.
Officials say that family members of Logan Bell, 18, called police and reported that he was armed and in danger of hurting himself. When police arrived, Bell ran. Three officers gave chase until Bell eventually stopped. They commanded him several times to drop his weapon. Instead, he raised his black pellet handgun toward the three officers at which point they fired, killing Bell.
