NORA, IL: A 69-year-old woman was killed when a driver ran a stop side and collided with her car. It happened Thursday evening at an intersection in the town of Nora, IL. The Jo Daviess County Sheriff's Department says 26-year-old Dalton Weidner of Monroe, WI ran a stop sign on North Stagecoach Rd., broadsiding another vehicle. The driver of that car, 69-year-old Alice Wand of South Wayne, WI was trapped inside with serious injuries. She later died after being extricated and then flown by Lifeline to St. Anthony's Hospital in Rockford.
Weidner's car hit Wand's car so hard, it flipped on its
side, and he also suffered significant injuries. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital in
Madison. Weidner is charged with
disobeying a traffic signal, failure to reduce speed, speeding, failure to
yield, and operating an unsafe vehicle.
Investigators say more serious charges against him for his role in the
deadly crash are pending.
