Rockford, Illinois-The Gymnastics Academy of Rockford is pitching in to help one of its gymnasts. Kate Foster of Rockford is battling leukemia. This Saturday the GAR will host a benefit for the Foster family to raise money to help pay for medical expenses.

The GAR will open its doors to the public from 2pm to 5pm. Kids will be able to play and tumble on the facilities equipment. There will also be drawings for prizes, and the gymnasts at GAR are holding a Cartwheels for Kate fundraiser built around pledges. There will also be face painting and balloons for the kids.

Foster lost her left leg to leukemia a year ago. That didn't stop her from working out at the GAR with an artificial leg this summer. But recently she and her family discovered that the cancer had returned. Foster, age 12, is now receiving treatment in Madison.

The cost for admission to the benefit Saturday is $5. The Gymnastics Academy of Rockford is located at 6630 Spring Brook Road in Rockford.

100 percent of the proceeds will benefit to Foster family.
