The Illinois Department of Transportation launched the Yellow Dot program in response to the success seen in 2011.
The yellow dot program is a safety initiative that provides first responders with critical personal information to tend to victims at the crash. The first hour, referred to the "golden hour", is the most crucial and this information can mean the difference between life and death.
Participants are given a yellow dot to place in the lower left corner of the rear window on the driver's side. This dot signifies that there's a folder in the glove box with personal information that first responders can use.
