Rockford, Illinois-Some Stateline residents are pulling for the Tigers in the World Series if for no other reason than a Stateline native is wearing a uniform.
Kirkland native Gene LaMont is the third base coach for the Tigers. He has been in that role since 2005. LaMont has had a long relationship with Tigers manager Jim Leyland going back to their days together with the Pirates.
LaMont has been involved in playoff baseball several times with the Tigers, Pirates and the White Sox when he was their manager in the early '90s.
