Rockford, IllinoisThis has been a remarkable football season for the Auburn Knights. They began it with a 35 game losing streak. But now they find themselves in the IHSA playoffs.

Their 5-4 record during the regular seson was just good enough to get them in. They'll compete in Class 6A.  They'll open up this Saturday afternoon by traveling to Cary-Grove.  Cary-Grove is 9-0 and ranked second in the state.

The last time an Auburn football team made the playoffs this year's players weren't even born yet. That was 22 years ago in 1990.  So what message does head coach Dan Appino have for his players?

"It think the message is 'let's play a high-quality four quarter game in ever phase," said Appino to WTVO.  "We haven't done it against a team with a winning record. So that's really the challenge lad in front of us."
